Therefore we are confident that one can safely assume to search one&#8217;s own brain when browsing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brain-map.org\/\">Allen Brain Atlas<\/a>. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In a mostly automated process the <a href=\"http:\/\/alleninstitute.org\/\">Allen institute<\/a> sliced and photographed the brains of mice and analysed the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gene_expression\">expression<\/a> of genes in the brain. The process started in 2003 and the result is a fully searchable atlas for genes in the brain with a neat  3d interface. Of course this is not the only mouse brain atlas there are others <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hms.harvard.edu\/research\/brain\/atlas.html\">as well<\/a> (not with the gene expression feature though) and if you happen to have your own mouse brain photos you can even find a tutorial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mbl.org\/tutorials\/atlas_tutorial\/atlas_tutorial.html\">how to make your own atlas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We rencently pointed out that (brain!) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.randform.org\/blog\/?p=844\">size can be hindering<\/a>. this together with the above mentioned 90% somewhat places us in a neck-and-neck race with the mice.<br \/>\nBut of course <em>we<\/em> invented the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Danger_Mouse\">pop music<\/a> &#8211; not the mice. So you can tell whose brain works better (but then we also invented the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.promotion-mouse.de\/shop\/details.php?id=27&#038;kategorie=18&#038;main_kat=&#038;start=0&#038;nr=\">brain mouse<\/a> &#8230;)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>image form national institutes of health via wikipedia Mice and men share about 90% of the genome.
