The social event included a trip to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hallstatt\">Hallstatt<\/a>, an old settlement on a narrow strip between Hallst\u00e4ttersee and the mountains. So the space on the Hallstatt graveyard used to be limited. Thus every 10 years the bones were exhumed, bleached and placed in an ossuary.  The skulls were decorated with ornaments and the persons&#8217; names. <\/p>\n<p><a href='http:\/\/www.randform.org\/blog\/wp-content\/2007\/10\/hallstatt1.JPG' title='hallstatt1.JPG'><img src='http:\/\/www.randform.org\/blog\/wp-content\/2007\/10\/hallstatt1.JPG' width='225' alt='hallstatt1.JPG' \/><\/a><a href='http:\/\/www.randform.org\/blog\/wp-content\/2007\/10\/hallstatt2.JPG' title='hallstatt2.JPG'><img src='http:\/\/www.randform.org\/blog\/wp-content\/2007\/10\/hallstatt2.JPG' width='225' alt='hallstatt2.JPG' \/><\/a><br \/>\nNowadays people can choose wether they want this treatment.<br \/>\nI like the idea &#8211; especially decorating the skulls, because it shows a normal relationship to death.
