Isn’t it interesting how mocking someone is perceived negatively?

This depends of course on the context, but as the situation is described in the story, this type of directly monkeying someones laughter would be rather clearly perceived as bullying – at least here in Germany. I don’t know – maybe other cultures deal with this differently. That is if the same situation would happen here in Germany with not too familiar adults then this “mocking” behaviour would be perceived as a rather severe insult. As an example a newspaper article, where “nachäffen” is listed as one of the possible actions of mobbing:

I mean there are professional imitators in the entertainment sector.

So there is someone having an eye on these objects!
